What to ask before committing to an electrical contractor
Many electrical issues aren't visible until something goes wrong, which makes it even more important to hire someone you can depend on. These questions can help you filter out unqualified or inexperienced tradespeople and give you peace of mind.
Are you registered and fully qualified?
Always confirm that the electrician is registered with a recognised body such as NICEIC or NAPIT. Registered electricians have their work checked regularly against the UK wiring regulations (BS 7671). Ask how long they guarantee their own workmanship, and get it in writing. Parts such as consumer units, EV chargers and smart devices usually carry their own manufacturer’s warranty too, so check how long it lasts and who you contact if something fails.
